Sling Media set to launch SlingPlayer Mobile for iPad

Sling Media is preparing to launch an iPad version of SlingPlayer Mobile that the company says is "better than any mobile app we've ever done."

Although Sling Media isn't saying when it will be available, the website says the cost will $29.99, the same as other SlingPlayer Mobile SlingPLayer Mobile for the Apple iPadapps.

The new iPad app will only work with the Slingbox PRO-HD and Slingbox SOLO. Legacy Slingboxes, like the Classic, TUNER, AV, and PRO, don't have the hardware to stream at the iPad's higher resolution. Sling is offering $50 off upgrades.

Project manager Dave Eylar said the new app gives users the functionality of a home TV and DVR, and works with any provider.

"The thing we're most proud of about this application is the video quality, it's better than any mobile app we've ever done,  and that's because it makes use of Apple's live streaming technology with H.264 video encoding," Eyler said. "We're really excited about this application because there's really nothing like it on the market.
