YouTube looking to score with sports fans

YouTube has added a plethora of sports programming to its site in recent months, has offered up live streaming cricket from the India Premier League, and has been rumored--at different times--to be working on deals with the NHL and NBA to stream live games.

Now, it's partnering with the U.S. Olympic Committee, reports CNBC, to bring a channel about U.S. Olympic athletes to the website. "Team USA" will be sponsored by AT&T (NYSE: T), and will feature historical footage, coaching specials and spotlights on individual athletes.

Earlier, a report from the New York Post said the Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) property was preparing to announce a deal with "a major sports league" at NewFronts, the digital equivalent of the TV industry's annual meeting between advertisers and networks pitching their products.

YouTube also announced it would add an average of 25 hours a month of original programing to its site.

The site also introduced a new channel about women, "WIGS."

YouTube already has soccer programming with KickTV, a joint venture between Google, Soccer United and Bedrock Media ventures.

The YouTube channel offers scores and highlights from around the world, as well as other features. It could, at some point, also include live games, a spokesman said.

Also reportedly rolling out, is a YouTube channel that focuses on IndyCar racing, although there hasn't been an official announcement on that yet.
