AT&T offers ad-free NBA games for people who switch to AT&T TV

AT&T is including the 2019-2020 season of NBA League Pass Premium for customers who switch from their TV provider to AT&T TV.

The deal, which kicks off Dec. 12, will give AT&T TV subscribers commercial-free access to NBA games. For now, it’s only available in AT&T TV’s 13 pilot markets: Orange/Riverside, California; Topeka, Kansas; Wichita, Kansas; El Paso, Texas; Odessa, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Springfield, Missouri; West Palm Beach, Florida; the Miami designated market area; Minneapolis; Seattle; and New York City.

AT&T began the beta launch for AT&T TV in late August, and the company plans to make the new streaming TV service available nationwide in 2020.

In addition to its NBA League Pass deal for AT&T TV subscribers, AT&T is also planning to air more than 20 NBA Games in 4K HDR on DirecTV this season. The first 4K HDR game will air on Nov. 26, and will feature the Los Angeles Clippers against the Dallas Mavericks.

AT&T is also giving away free access to the 2019-2020 season of NBA League Pass to DirecTV customers who order the “Choice” package or above, or U-verse customers who order the “U-300” package or above. The service shows up to 40 out-of-market games a week and is available on TVs, computers, tablets and phones.

While AT&T pushes NBA packages for its video subscribers, the company is also working on next-gen entertainment and wireless projects at NBA venues. The company is experimenting with 5G and immersive media technologies – like augmented reality and volumetric video – at the United Center in Chicago, which will be among the first arenas in the nation to get 5G from AT&T during the 2019-2020 NBA season.
