The SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012 is being held Oct. 17-19 in Orlando, Fla., with a focus on helping the industry's engineering and operating companies learn about the newest in cable telecommunications technology, products and services. The Expo features educational sessions, panels, networking opportunities and exhibits from almost 400 companies for the 10,000 attendees from 55 countries, according to the event's website.

The cable industry is approaching its next generation DOCSIS 3.1 platform with the tenacity of a group of engineers who have been presented with a problem--ravenous demand for bandwidth--that they must solve using existing tools and infrastructure because it's frankly too expensive to abandon what's there today--hybrid fiber/coax--in favor of a straight fiber to the premises run.
