Limelight Networks opens 100th PoP, says global capacity has increased 40%

Content delivery network and edge cloud service provider Limelight Networks just opened up its 100th Point-of-Presence (PoP), and since January 2018 has grown its global capacity by 40% to 42 Tbps of egress capacity, according to figures the company released today that outlined its recent global expansion efforts.

“At Limelight, we’re passionate about delivering the highest quality online video and edge cloud services. Our increased footprint and dispersed infrastructure provides fast connectivity around the world to best meet the growing demands for low latency video delivery,” said Dan Carney, senior vice president of network operations at Limelight, in a statement. “While still in its early stages, we’re pleased with our expansion plans and our work with Ericsson in building out new PoPs in locations that are most important to our customers and to meet increasing traffic.”

Limelight also said that its work with Ericsson to get its technology embedded deeper into service provider networks is progressing, and helping to reduce latency. Per the deal announced in late 2018, Limelight’s content delivery technology is being deployed on the Ericsson Unified Delivery Network (UDN) Edge Cloud Platform to expand its global delivery capabilities and increase delivery capacities.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the performance and reach of our network. The strength of Ericsson’s partnerships with communications service providers through the UDN Network is a key component of this agreement that enable us to offer even better reach and performance for our customers. We are delighted to work with Ericsson on this initiative,” said Bob Lento, CEO of Limelight Networks, in a statement.

Limelight said the Ericsson deal will “contribute meaningfully towards our 2019 revenue and margin goals in the second half of 2019.”
