Allen Media Group hires Matthew Lipson as EVP of digital content marketing

Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group (AMG) has brought on Matthew Lipson as executive vice president of marketing for digital platforms and content – a newly formed position by the company.

Lipson will oversee marketing strategies, creative development and social media across AMG’s digital content portfolio. He will also manage paid media and optimization for that content, along with AMG’s digital distribution division for movies – Freestyle Digital Media.

Lipson is currently based at AMG’s Los Angeles headquarters, where he’s worked with AMG and The Weather Channel to develop and deploy new OTT sports and entertainment platforms into the marketplace, as shown in his LinkedIn profile.

Lipson previously served for two years as EVP of content innovation and marketing at 101 Studios, where he oversaw marketing and digital strategy for all film, television and audio releases. There, he also handled production and marketing for Sports Illustrated Studios, which produces long-form film and TV content based on the work featured in the Sports Illustrated magazine.

Prior to 101 Studios, Lipson has worked at Open Road Films and NBCUniversal’s specialty-film division – Focus Features, in both of which he held the role of Digital Marketing SVP.

“Veteran marketing executive Matthew Lipson is an integral and highly valuable addition to our Allen Media Group family," said Byron Allen, chairman and CEO of AMG, in a statement. "Matt’s extensive digital marketing experience makes him the ideal executive team leader as we continue to expand our digital footprint across all our Allen Media Group streaming platforms and positioning us to maximize our new global partnership with Google.”

AMG announced its partnership with Google back in January. AMG intends to leverage Google Cloud to better scale its digital audiences as well as expand its YouTube TV carriage. YouTube TV added The Weather Channel and several other AMG networks in April, The Desk reported.

"I'm very excited to join the Allen Media Group team as Byron Allen continues to expand his already sizeable investments in digital products, technologies, content, and direct-to-consumer platforms,” Lipson said in a statement.

Further beefing up its carriage deals, AMG this month scored a deal with Cox Communications. Cox will distribute three AMG networks across the country:  JusticeCentral.TV, Recipe.TV and Comedy.TV.
