Amazon reached 18.4M total viewers in first season of streaming NFL games

Amazon today released some numbers regarding its first season of streaming Thursday night NFL games and the company said that, over the course of the 11 games it streamed, it reached 18.4 million total viewers.

Those viewers tuned in from 224 different countries and territories.

Amazon said that the average-minute audience (AMA) watching NFL games on Prime Video for at least 30 seconds was more than 310,000, which it said was 17% higher than the AMA Twitter attracted last season with its NFL streaming deal. Those viewers watched an average of 63 minutes.

During the 2016 season, Twitter said its AMA for NFL streams was around 250,000 per game. The company said that it attracted 2 million viewers for its first game, 2.2 million for the second, and between 2.6 million and 3.1 million for the remaining eight games after.

Amazon streamed 10 Thursday night NFL games and one game on Christmas Day.

Amazon Prime Video scored its biggest NFL audience of the season on Dec. 7, when 2 million worldwide viewers tuned in for the Atlanta Falcons versus the New Orleans Saints.

In the U.S., while at least some Prime members in all 50 states and the District of Columbia watched all 11 NFL games, more Prime members in California watched the NFL on Prime Video than in any other state.

Outside of the U.S., more customers in Mexico watched the NFL on Prime Video than in any other country, followed by Germany and South Korea. Viewers in Germany streamed the most minutes and viewers in Chad watched for the longest amount of time on average.
