Amazon Prime Video will once again stream New York Yankees baseball games this season. The first of 20 regular season games will air on April 4, with all games available at no additional cost to Prime members in the Yankees’ home-team footprint.
Viewers can catch the games for free if they reside in New York, Connecticut, northern and central New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania. In other markets, Prime members can stream the games if they have an MLB.TV subscription, which costs $24.99 per month or $129.99 per season for a single team.
Amazon first introduced exclusive Yankees games to Prime Video last spring. Last year’s lineup had 21 games, but those games started at the end of April rather than the beginning of the month.
Prior to 2022, YES Network simulcast 21 Yankees games on New York’s WPIX local station, and those games were also made available on Prime Video.
Amazon’s full schedule of games for the 2023 season can be found here, with replays available for 48 hours after live airings. Most games will take place weeknights at 7 p.m. ET.
In addition to pre- and post-game coverage, Yankees games on Prime Video will again feature Amazon’s X-Ray technology, allowing viewers to access live in-game stats, team and player details as well as real-time play-by-play information.
However, 20 games are only a small portion of the 162 games each Major League Baseball team must play per season. Rights to MLB games are scattered across different streaming services.
Apple last year started hosting Friday Night Baseball – a weekly doubleheader of live games – on Apple TV+. Ahead of this year’s regular season, the company announced viewers will need a TV+ subscription to watch the games, which were previously available for free.
Peacock, on the other hand, has an exclusive deal to stream weekly Sunday morning MLB games. For 2023, the NBCUniversal-owned service will stream 19 live games from April 23 to September 3.
In related baseball streaming news, Fubo (which recently dropped “TV” from its logo) last week introduced MLB.TV as an add-on for $25 per month. The addition came over a month after fellow virtual MVPD YouTube TV dropped the MLB Network due to a carriage dispute.
