Comcast inks cloud partnership with DT's Magenta TV

Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS) unveiled today its Cloud TV Suite will be the new backend platform for Deutsche Telekom’s (DT) Magenta TV across select European markets.

DT will use Comcast’s cloud offering to provide a comprehensive video management platform with capabilities like easy workflow management, multi-language metadata management, video processing and more. Comcast will also offer a 24-7 service level agreement for the platform’s technical support.

“We selected Comcast Technology Solutions’ Cloud TV Suite because of its ability to address our needs with market-proven reliability and efficiency,” said Pedro Bandeira, DT’s VP of product and new business, in a statement. “Moving to this advanced new platform will enable us to further harmonize our product roadmaps, accelerate new service delivery, and enable consistent and seamless experiences across devices and our markets.”

Magenta TV is a Germany-based OTT platform that boasts over 180 channels. Subscribers can also access streaming services like RTL+ Premium and Disney+ as part of an included package.

Comcast has recently expanded its enterprise services for content providers. CTS in January launched VideoAI, a metadata generation platform with various use-cases such as dynamic ad insertion and segmentation detection.

“Deutsche Telekom is a global leader in product innovation and customer experience across Europe and around the world,” said Ken Klaer, president of CTS and EVP of Comcast Cable, in a statement. “We are extremely honored that they selected our team to help support the next-generation of Magenta TV by adopting our versatile Cloud TV Suite.”

The partnership is also indicative of the growing international streaming market. App Annie’s State of Mobile 2022 report found the Disney+ app surpassed $2 billion in global consumer spend – with Germany, U.K. and Australia among its top markets. Other distributors are also charting an international course, including Paramount and HBO Max.
