CommScope, Orange Belgium join forces for next-gen set-top box launch

CommScope has teamed up with Orange Belgium to release the newest generation of CommScope’s set top boxes, powered by the Android TV OS. The partnership merges CommScope’s software with Orange ecosystem partners to deliver both live TV and streaming services.

Orange Belgium subscribers will have access to CommScope’s 4K Ultra HD digital video decoders, with enhanced OTT streaming, on-demand and broadcast TV services. Customers can tap into a variety of streaming apps as well as CommScope’s new multiscreen cloud recording service.

CommScope’s set-tops are built in with Chromecast, which viewers can use to cast movies, shows and other media from their Android devices. Viewers can control set-tops via a Google-enabled voice activated remote.

“Service providers recognize the value to the consumer in enhancing their live and on-demand TV services with an easy-to-use TV experience,” said Phil Cardy, VP of international PLM and home networks at CommScope, in a statement. “We are excited by our partnership with Orange Belgium and to provide them with a next generation, high-quality solution that gives their subscribers the services and entertainment they have come to expect.”

CommScope has often collaborated with service providers to deploy new products. Last November, CommScope launched the iQ5 set-top box for subscribers served by Australian pay TV provider Foxtel. CommScope has also partnered with Evoca TV to distribute devices integrated with ATSC 3.0 technology.

“There is no doubt that the viewing habits of our subscribers have evolved and that means our services and devices must evolve as well,” said Thomas Parvais, director of fixed access broadband and TV services at Orange Belgium.

CommScope also partnered last year with Orange Slovensko, based in Slovakia, to deploy its latest set-tops. The company plans to launch similar products with other Orange affiliates later this year.
