Deeper Dive—MyBundle.TV builds on broadband with CuriosityStream promo

Through a new partnership with CuriosityStream and C Spire, MyBundle.TV is expanding on its mission to simplify streaming.

MyBundle.TV has already been available for years as a free online tool for helping consumers find the virtual MVPDs and streaming services that align with their criteria including channel lineups and price. The company also helps consumers find what to watch through its curated recommendations and soon, MyBundle.TV could also begin handling billing for streaming services.

Over the past year, MyBundle.TV has also been growing its partnerships with broadband providers. CEO Jason Cohen said last year at this time the company had eight broadband provider partners and now it has 55, with hundreds more potential partners out there.

The broadband partnerships involve MyBundle.TV’s aforementioned tools being integrated and co-branded on provider platforms. For instance, if you go to CenturyLink’s website and try to sign up for TV service, you’ll be directed to a personalization tool that takes you through a list of questions about household, location, preferences, devices and more, all asked with the end goal of finding a streaming match in mind.

The strategy revolves around helping smaller broadband providers—ranging from WOW! to WesTex—have an app store strategy not unlike what major players like Comcast, Spectrum and Altice USA can build on their own.

“It doesn’t make sense for even the 10th biggest player in the country to do it themselves, let alone the 2,000 broadband providers that are out there,” said Cohen. “Very specifically, our value proposition to the broadband provider today is we help you win new broadband customers because we’re helping those customers realize they don’t need the triple-play package from their cable or satellite company anymore.”

Now, MyBundle.TV is taking the next logical step by partnering with content and broadband providers to offer promotions, beginning with a deal for a free year of CuriosityStream for C Spire and Point Broadband customers. The offer is being delivered via email—to new customers, upgrades or whomever the broadband providers thinks should get it—and it is allowing new customers to create a CuriosityStream account directly from MyBundle.TV’s website.

"C Spire is focused on giving our customers exactly what they want - Gigabit Fiber Internet with no data caps, long-term contracts or shady promotional pricing," said Rob Rubinoff, product manager for home and MDU at C Spire. "When it comes to TV, partnering with MyBundle.TV has helped our broadband subscribers discover what's best for them, whether that's our branded C Spire TV streaming service or any of the hundreds of streaming offerings available to them today. The addition of MyBundle.TV's streaming service promotions is providing new and exciting ways to get creative on the marketing front and seamlessly offer our customers great streaming deals to pair with our world-class broadband."

Cohen said his company’s latest effort alleviates some of the headaches for broadband providers who want to partner with and integrate subscription streaming services but don’t deal with all the direct negotiations. Now, any of MyBundle.TV’s broadband provider partners can offer the same CuriosityStream promo to their customers, and Cohen said his company is working on more streaming service partnerships—from smaller niche services to giants like Netflix and Hulu.

“[Netflix and Hulu] can do a deal with Verizon, Comcast or Charter, but do you think anybody at Netflix or Hulu wants to start calling on hundreds and hundreds of small cable and broadband providers? They want to deal with the big guys. So, the beauty of us is, we’re doing this for CenturyLink, we’re doing this for WOW!, and we’re talking to a lot more of the big telco, broadband and cable companies also,” said Cohen. “What we’re doing is reducing that friction.”
