DirecTV adds NBCUniversal's Cozi TV to channel lineup

DirecTV introduced Thursday NBCUniversal-owned Cozi TV to its satellite channel lineup.

Cozi TV features 24-7 programming of classic television series from the 1960s to the 2000s, like “Columbo,” “Frasier,” “Roseanne,” “Little House on the Prairie” and others. Detective shows “Bones” and “Monk” are slated to join Cozi TV’s primetime lineup on October 3.

The channel is also available on DirecTV Stream, DirecTV’s live streaming companion, Dish Network, streaming services YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV’s U-verse service and via cable networks.

“This is a big day for Cozi TV,” stated Meredith McGinn, NBCUniversal’s local EVP of diginets and original production. “We are thrilled to welcome America’s top satellite provider DirecTV and its subscribers into our fun world of comfort television programming, complete with family-friendly entertainment available for all ages.”

Cozi TV started out as a local news and lifestyle network, launching in 2009 as NBC Nonstop, which would run on NBC’s owned-and-operated stations. The network rebranded to Cozi TV in 2013.

DirecTV’s inclusion of Cozi TV comes after the provider earlier this month added the Bounce and Grit channels, both owned by Scripps Networks. Grit showcases western series and movies, while Bounce airs content targeted towards African-Americans.

Bounce and Grit have recently made their appearances as free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels via Vizio.

DirecTV this summer also added AMC Networks’ Allblk channel, which focuses on African-American TV and film, and British series-oriented Acorn TV.

DirecTV of late has been expanding its distribution. Last month it inked a multi-year deal with Amazon to stream Thursday Night Football across 300,000 bars and restaurants. It also renewed deals with Marriot and Hyatt to deliver its video product in hotel rooms across the U.S.
