Fandom hooks vast wiki up to new interactive video feature

Fandom, a company best known for its vast wiki covering films, TV series, games and more, is introducing a new interactive video feature for deeper digging.

The company described Fandom Interactive Video as an immersive video experience that allows fans to engage and navigate fictional worlds through features like trailers loaded with clickable graphics offering facts, lore and direct access to Fandom's wiki communities. Think of it as a "choose your own adventure" pop-up video style, a Fandom spokesperson told Fierce Video.

Fans cannot create their own content with Fandom Interactive but they are able to customize their entire experience based on information pulled exclusively from Fandom communities. The company said future versions of Fandom Interactive will include personalized recommendations such as shoppable options and custom experiences for advertising clients.

“As the leading global platform for fans, we’re constantly looking for new ways to superserve fans and provide unique and engaging content around their favorite franchises, allowing them to experience their fandoms like never before,” said Michael Chiang, chief business officer at Fandom, in a statement. “Fandom Interactive puts the fans in control of their online experience, giving them the tools to access the content they personally want, while acting as a guide throughout our expansive wiki platforms so fans can easily find the information they want to consume. It also provides a completely one-of-a-kind opportunity for advertisers to deliver meaningful branded content to fans like never before.”

Fandom is also pitching Interactive to advertisers and promising custom advertising content relevant to its fans’ personal preferences. The company said it has seen a 40% year over year increase in video sales growth for its branded content.
