FuboTV inks carriage deal with regional sports network Altitude Sports

Sports-centric virtual MVPD FuboTV has reached a multi-year carriage deal with regional sports network Altitude Sports.

The deal means FuboTV subscribers in 10 Rocky Mountain states will get access to games of NHL Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets. The RSN will be available on Fubo just ahead of the 2022-2023 NHL and NBA seasons. Specifically, Fubo will stream 74 regular season Denver Nuggets games and 69 Colorado Avalanche games, as well as the Colorado Mammoth pro lacrosse team.

Altitude Sports will be part of Fubo’s Pro plan (now the company’s base package since ditching its lower-cost Starter plan and migrating existing users to Pro in May), which costs $70 per month.

“We’re thrilled to expand FuboTV’s leading sports coverage with the addition of Altitude Sports and bring fans of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Mammoth an affordable streaming option in the seasons ahead,” said Todd Mathers, SVP of content strategy and acquisition at FuboTV, in a statement. “FuboTV is a leading choice for hometown sports, alongside our national and international sports coverage. Today’s distribution partnership means fans across the Rockies will be able to stream all available home games for some of the most loved teams in the region.”

FuboTV said the deal expands its local coverage in Colorado, where it currently carries ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, Telemundo and Univision affiliates in Denver and Colorado Springs-Pueblo, as well as national sports networks ESPN. Fubo boasts more than 50,000 live sporting events annually, along with more than a dozen regional sports networks in the base package.

“FuboTV becomes the newest streaming option for our fans as we continue to expand Altitude’s distribution throughout the Rocky Mountain Region,” said Matt Hutchings, president & CEO of KSE Media Ventures, in a statement. “Best of all, FuboTV values those fans and provides them a great option for following their hometown teams.”

Fubo isn’t the only TV service offering Altitude Sports RSNs in the Rocky Mountain region. In January, Evoca, a live TV service leveraging NextGen broadcast technology, launched its offering in Denver including the Altitude Sports regional network.

Altitude Sports is notably not carried by Comcast, which dropped the network in 2019 after a new agreement couldn’t be reached. Altitude later that year filed a lawsuit against Comcast over alleged antitrust violations.

On the RSN front, Comcast this summer disclosed selling NBCUniversal’s 67% stake in NBC Sports Washington (the D.C. area’s major regional sports network) to District-based Monumental Sports & Entertainment. ry

Sinclair, meanwhile, through its Diamond Sports Group subsidiary launched a direct-to-consumer streaming service, Bally Sports+ for 19 Bally regional sports networks.
