Hulu gives subscribers three free months of Xbox PC Game Pass

Hulu is teaming up with Xbox to launch a new offer that gives subscribers of the streaming service three free months of PC Game Pass.

The offer, which starts today and runs through July 23, is only available to U.S subscribers who are new Xbox Game Pass members. Members get access to over 100 games on Windows PC, including Minecraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Bethesda games and the EA Play on PC catalog.

The new perk is part of the Hulu Friends with Benefits rewards program.

On Thursday Disney reported that Hulu’s subscriber tally now stands at 45.6 million, including 41.4 million for its SVOD only option and 4.1 million for Hulu Live TV + SVOD. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hulu added 300,000 subscribers during Disney’s fiscal second quarter.

The company expects direct-to-consumer programming and production costs to increase next quarter by more than $900 million year over year, as a results of higher expenses for original content at both Hulu and Disney+ as well as increased sports rights costs and programming fees for Hulu Live TV.

Xbox games, meanwhile, may start to see more ads as Microsoft is reportedly developing of a program that allows brands to advertise within free-to-play Xbox games. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed the plans, which were reported by Business Insider, but the aim is to boost Xbox’s limited ad inventory with the addition of games that can host ads, and ultimately allow more developers to sell ad space on the platform.
