Netflix schedules interactive daily trivia show for April

Netflix is taking another step into hands-on entertainment with the upcoming launch of Trivia Quest, a daily interactive series based on Trivia Crack.

Starting April 1, the streaming service will launch one new episode every day throughout the month. Each episode features 24 questions (12 standard and 12 hard) across categories including science, history, entertainment, sports, art and geography, and each question is a multiple-choice play, with four potential answers to choose from. The series will follow a narrative and viewers can unlock additional animations based on accumulated points from correct responses.

Trivia Quest will be available on all supported devices including smart TVs, streaming media players, game consoles and computer browsers along with Android and iOS devices.

“We’re excited to experiment in this space and find new ways to entertain our members and new ways for our members to interact with Netflix,” wrote Andy Weil, vice president of comedy series and interactive programming, in a blog post.

The new series test—which for now only spans 30 episodes—is an expansion of the interactive programming efforts Netflix has been making with shows including “Black Mirror,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “You vs. Wild.” The company also said Trivia Quest fits in with its mobile gaming initiative.

Netflix has been steadily building its gaming business through acquisitions and new hires. This week, the company bought Next Games, a Finnish video game studio behind titles like “Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales,” for approximately €65 million (or about $72 million). The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022. Last year, Netflix acquired Night School, the gaming studio behind “Oxenfree,” and hired Michael Verdu, a former Facebook and Electronic Arts executive who now serves as vice president of games at Netflix.
