Plex offers 20% off lifetime subscription during Pro Week promo

As Plex kicks off its second annual Plex Pro Week promotion, the free streaming platform is offering a 20% discount on its Lifetime Plex Pass subscription.

Plex offers its basic app for free, with three paid tier options for Plex Pass. A lifetime Plex Pass costs $120 (or $96 this week at the discounted price), or users can pay $40 per year or $5 per month.

Plex’s Pro Week, which starts Monday and runs through September 23, is meant to help educate users on how to maximize their own media library for a better home entertainment experience using the platform.

This week it will offer in-depth sessions from YouTube influencers (Linus Tech Tips, Kevin the Tech Ninja and Joshua Vergara), along with company experts such as Plex co-founder Elan Feingold. One of Plex’s aims is to simplify the streaming struggle for users, serving as a one-stop window for services including those users subscribe to – ultimately to make it easier to find, discover, keep tabs on, and watch content across a variety of platforms. Plex also offers free access to over 50,000 titles, movies and TV shows on-demand, and hundreds of free-to-stream live TV channels.

In April the company upgraded its platform with one navigation window that lets users search for where to watch content across all of their paid and free streaming services. It also offers the Plex Universal Watchlist, where users can track their favorite movies and shows across different platforms, including when content moves to other services. Plex’s own recent research highlighted the challenge of deciding what and how to watch content playlists in a growing arena of options. According to the survey, the average U.S. consumer has around 13 TV shows and 16 movies on their streaming watchlist – lengthy enough that 68% said it’s “nearly impossible” to get through their current watchlist.

As part of the educational promo week, Plex said expert content will feature tricks and shortcuts to boost the personal media library and entertainment experience. For example, topics such as how to set up a personal media server on different devices, how to create a home movie theater experience with Plex, and deep dives into its music streaming player Plexamp, will be featured. On the music front, Plex in August added 16 new music-focused linear channels from Stingray.

“Pro Week is dedicated to showing our appreciation for our Personal Media users, a passionate group of entertainment lovers who really are at the core of the Plex universe” said Scott Hancock, VP of Marketing at Plex, in a statement. “Through deep-dives and in-depth sessions, we’ll teach new and existing Plex users how to unlock the full potential of their personal media servers through Plex to create the most intuitive and engaging experiences.”

Plex did run into some issues of its own over the summer when the platform was hit by a data breach, which resulted in its 25 million-plus users having to reset account passwords.
