Small cable operator Armstrong announced the availability of Netflix’s 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) programming on its EXP platform.
EXP is Armstrong’s next-gen service platform powered by TiVo. The platform will now allow Armstrong customers to browse and access Netflix’s entire 4K UHD library, featuring over 1,200 hours of original films, documentaries, specials and series.
“We’re pleased to have Netflix 4K UHD programming,” said Jeffrey A. Ross, president of Armstrong, in a statement. “We remain focused on providing our customers high-quality entertainment experiences.”
To access Netflix in 4K UHD, Armstrong customers will need the company’s Zoom Internet, a compatible EXP set-top box (the Arris MG2), a 4K-compatible TV, and a Netflix Premium subscription.
Armstrong provides television, high-speed internet and telephone service to residential and commercial customers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Maryland.

The Armstrong deal continues Netflix’s campaign to integrate its content and application into the platforms of pay-TV operators. Most recently, Netflix made its content available on Verizon Fios set-top devices, including the IPC1100P2 and IPC1100P1 client, as well as the VMS1100 DVR.
Earlier this year, Comcast integrated Netflix with its X1 platform, and after that Cox, whose Contour platform is a licensed version of X1, also integrated Netflix.
With the legwork of Netflix integration out of the way after the Comcast X1 deal, industry analysts predicted that Netflix integration into other smaller pay-TV systems would accelerate.
“Now that you’ve got this infrastructure in place, you’ll see many other integrations without the financial pain that would traditionally happen,” said Greg Riker, senior VP of Americas for Metrological Group.
