Verizon offers customers $30 off annual NFL+ Premium subscription

Verizon is touting a promotion that offers $30 off an annual subscription for the NFL+ Premium streaming service. It’s first available to any qualified* Verizon Wireless customers but will expand to all subscribers next month.

An annual subscription to NFL+ Premium, which debuted in July, typically costs just under $80 per year for access to live local and primetime regular season and post-season games on smartphones and tablets, along with on-demand content. A monthly subscription for NFL+ costs $4.99 for the base tier or $9.99 per month for the premium version. The premium tier also provides ad-free full and condensed game replays across devices, and Coaches Film including All-22.  In addition to live local and primetime matches, users also get audio to out-of-market games.

According to a Verizon spokesperson, all Verizon Wireless customers are eligible for the promo, meaning it isn’t tied to signing up for a specific unlimited plan. The discount offer started September 8 and runs through October 31.  And due to popular demand, the company is opening up access to the discount to all Verizon customers on October 3, the spokesperson said. Customers will be able to access the offer through My Verizon on or around that date and must be logged in to be directed to the promo.

Verizon and the NFL already have a standing relationship, including inking a 10-year partnership in 2021, which named the service provider as the league’s official technology partner and 5G network. Verizon has also installed its 5G Ultrawideband service in parts of 25 NFL stadiums.

As for NFL+, some users of the service reported encountering technical difficulties with the app as the new NFL season kicked off in September, such as being unable to login or fast-forward on NFL+ Premium.

NFL+ released its own direct-to-consumer app as more major sports rights are shifting to streaming services. Amazon debuted its showing of NFL Thursday Night Football on September 15, which reportedly brought a record number of new U.S. signups for Amazon Prime, based on an internal memo obtained by Deadline.  Amazon has Thursday Night Football rights under an 11-year deal, reportedly worth around $1 billion annually.

The winner of the coveted Sunday Ticket package has yet to be announced, though some have pegged Apple as the likely successful bidder.

For Verizon, sweetening its services with access to popular sports content is the latest promo effort that involves streaming services. Over the summer the carrier continued its relationship with Disney+, extending an offer to prepaid wireless customers for free 6-months to the subscription service when they activate or upgrade to an unlimited wireless plan.
