YouTube TV adds Frontier to its list of broadband partners

Frontier Communications said that starting today its internet customers will be able to add YouTube TV directly to their bundle of other services.

To kick off the partnership, Frontier is offering its customers the service for $10 off per month for 12 months, bringing the cost down to $54.99. On its website, the company is claiming that Frontier customers can save up to $600 per year by choosing YouTube TV instead of traditional cable.

“This partnership with YouTube TV gives our customers the opportunity to cut the cord and still watch the live and on-demand content they love,” said John Harrobin, executive vice president of consumer at Frontier, in a statement. “Customers can now enjoy our fiber-optic broadband service plus YouTube TV for the best price available in the market.”

Frontier is the latest of several wireless and broadband partners for YouTube TV. Google’s virtual MVPD also has similar deals with Verizon, T-Mobile, Google Fiber, CenturyLink and WOW!

Google’s most recently updated subscriber total for YouTube TV had the service with more than 3 million subscribers. But a more recent estimate from Lightshed analyst Rich Greenfield puts YouTube TV at about 4 million subscribers, equaling Hulu + Live TV’s most recent total.

Google is currently only charging $14.99 for the first month of service (normally $64.99) for new subscribers, a massive 77% discount that has the potential to get lots of customers through the door and accustomed to having the service. The company is also reportedly getting closer to adding a free, ad-supported streaming television component to YouTube TV.
