YouTube TV launches Spanish-language only streaming plan

YouTube TV now offers a streaming plan featuring only Spanish-language channels and is also beefing up the lineup of Spanish-language content with a new add-on for the virtual MVPD’s base package.

The new option, called Spanish Plan, costs $34.99 per month (with an intro rate of $24.99 per month for the first six) and features 28 channels in Spanish including ESPN Deportes, Fox, Cine Latino, CNN Español, Discovery en Español, Tastemade en Español, Nat Geo Mundo, and Estrella TV, among others. Users of the Spanish Plan don’t need to subscribe to a basic YouTube TV plan.

As a new add-on to the YouTube TV Base Plan, the streaming service introed Spanish Plus, with access to 25 additional Spanish language channels. Spanish Plus costs $14.99 per month and YouTube TV is offering a six-month introductory rate of $9.99 per month.

The service includes unlimited DVR and up to six accounts per households.

It’s YouTube TV’s latest effort to offer more Spanish-language programming. In September the live TV streaming service added three networks from Univision at no extra cost. Streaming movie service Pantaya was also included as a $5.99 per month add on.

Earlier this week TelevisaUnivision announced plans to acquire Pantaya from Hemisphere Media Group as the company prepares to launch a premium tier SVOD service later in 2022.

Streaming TV grew its share for TV viewership in the U.S. in the first two months of 2022 to reach 29% in February, compared to 61% for linear TV, according to an April report from MoffettNathanson.

Among streamers, the firm said Netflix and YouTube continue to be consistent leaders with 6% and 7% of total TV consumption, respectively.
