AT&T adds 41 channels to TVE app; now compatible with Samsung smart watch

AT&T (NYSE: T) has announced a major expansion of its U-verse TV Everywhere app, adding 41 live programming networks and extending its compatibility to Samsung Gear S wearables.

With the upgrade, the U-verse app now has live access to 236 channels inside the residence and 173 for outside mobile streaming.

New channels include Viacom networks BET, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Spike TV, along with their myriad satellite networks. Fox Sports 1, Galavision, HGTV and Univision are also among the additions.

Compatibility with the Samsung Gear S, the company's first 4G wireless wearable, allows U-verse customers to use the device as a remote control, accessing their program guide and setting their DVRs remotely.

Meanwhile, in other TVE expansion news, NBC Sports Digital said its NBC Sports Live Extra app is now supported by Roku-enabled and Apple TV streaming devices.

And Time Warner Cable has added live TV to its TWC TV app for Xbox One.

Despite ubiquitous frustration with the initiative, TVE's usage continues to grow, with Adobe reporting last month that use is up 467 percent over the last two years.
