Chutes & Ladders: Garcia to head Sprint's cable JV

Sprint Nextel appointed one of its senior VPs to the top post of its joint venture with cable companies Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Advance Newhouse. John Garcia most recently served as the carrier's senior VP of strategic partners for Sprint consumer relations. Garcia said he expects the currently unnamed venture to start rolling out consumer products mid-year. The quadruple play offerings will include place-shifting television from the living room to the user's mobile phone and free calls between landlines and handsets. The companies announced the JV last November as a measure to combat Verizon's FiOS IPTV offering and AT&T's recently launched IPTV service.
