Comcast to integrate CBS Fantasy Football on X1

Comcast has partnered with CBS Sports Digital to integrate fantasy football scores and stats onto the screens of X1 platform users as they watch live pigskin. 

Starting today, X1 users can geek out on the CBS Sports Fantasy Football league on the same screen as the actual games. 

“Until now, the millions of people in the U.S. who play fantasy sports would track their team’s progress on a separate device splitting their attention from the live play on TV.  By putting everything on the same screen, we’ve created an experience that’s immersive, informative and complete,” said Preston Smalley, VP of product management for apps, sports and content, for Comcast Cable.

The integration will include detailed stats and analysis of players, team standings and updates on head-to-head matchups, among other features, all accessible via the X1 Voice Remote.

Now billing itself as an "aggregator of aggregators," Comcast has been on aggressive spree of licensing content services to integrate into its advanced X1 video platform. Meanwhile, it continues to expand availability of X1 beyond its footprint by licensing out the technology to other cable operators. 

Comcast said that around 55% of its more than 22.5 million pay-TV users currently have X1. The product is also being licensed by No. 3 U.S. cable operator Cox Communications, which pegs distribution of the white-label “Countour” video service at around 25% of its nearly 4.25 million video subs.

In Canada, meanwhile, Shaw Communications has credited its version of X1, which it calls BlueSky TV, with driving down churn. Other Canadian operators, Rogers Communications and Videotron, have also licensed the technology from Comcast. 

“The integration plays right into our focus on offering custom leagues and features for serious fantasy players, who can now seamlessly track their teams while watching games on the same screen,” said Jeffrey Gerttula, senior VP and general manager of CBS Sports Digital.
