Comcast security chief Clancy tapped to head Secret Service

The guy once charged with protecting one of the biggest targets in consumer services is now responsible with guarding perhaps the biggest target in the free world.

Joseph Clancy, a retired Secret Service agent who has served in the private sector as director of corporate security for Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) since 2011, was just named interim director of the agency. He was appointed Wednesday following the resignation of Julia Pierson.

"During more than three years at Comcast, he was an integral part of our security team and we are sad to see him leave," the cable and media conglomerate said in a statement. "We are highly confident he will be an outstanding interim leader for the Secret Service and we wish him the very best."

While at Comcast, Clancy was in charge of protecting both employees and assets, spearheading corporate investigations and assisting with policy development, according to his bio.

Clancy also served as director of national special security events with the Department of Homeland Security. And he led a squad of agents in the Secret Service's New York field office. He attended West Point and graduated from Villanova University.
