Comcast to use Super Bowl to promote TV Everywhere initiatives

Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) plans to punctuate its ongoing TV Everywhere promotion campaign with a blowout Super Bowl Sunday, during which it will stream 11 hours of programming to anyone with a compatible IP device, no pay-TV subscription required.

Comcast's "Super Stream Sunday" will kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Feb. 1 and include singer Katy Perry's headlining of the Super Bowl halftime show, the pre- and post-game shows, as well as a post-game presentation of the NBC series The Blacklist. Oh, and the actual game between the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks and ball-deflating AFC champion New England Patriots will also be streamed.

Comcast will stream its Super Bowl content via its NBC Sports Live Extra platform, although smart phones will be unable to view the presentation.

It's all part of Comcast's "Watch TV Without TV" campaign, which is designed to increase TV Everywhere awareness and usage.

"'Super Stream Sunday' builds off of NBCUniversal's commitment to create broader TV Everywhere opportunities for our consumers," said Alison Moore, GM and EVP, TV Everywhere, NBCUniversal. "We are leveraging the massive digital reach of the Super Bowl to help raise overall awareness of TV Everywhere by allowing consumers to explore our vast TVE offering with this special one-day-only access."
