Cox follows Comcast in raising rates; prices going up $5 a month in Arizona

The cable industry is sometimes like Southeast Asia. As one MSO (domino) topples, it creates a reaction along the whole line as others fall as well. So, as newspapers across the country continue to herald the fact that Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) is raising rates in their local communities, Cox Communications starts drawing attention in Arizona where the Arizona Republic says that about two-thirds of the MSO's Arizona customers will experience a $5 per month rate hike.

At least Cox takes a different tack than Comcast, which blamed its increases on improved networks and services. Cox points to "rising costs for programming," the newspaper said.
