SPOTLIGHT: Canadian telcos behind in IP services

To date, Canadian telcos are far behind cable competitors in acquiring customers for new converged services. As of the end of the first quarter, Canadian cablecos had 458,873 phone customers, while the telcos had only acquired 125,000 new IPTV subscribers. As with telcos elsewhere, Canadian telcos are struggling with technology and business model challenges. If they don't resolve these problems quickly, however, the telcos will have a hard time defending their landline phone business against cable competitors. Article
