IT departments prepare for surge of March Madness video

College hoops fans may be stocking up on beverages and nacho dip as the season heads into its March Madness tournament frenzy, but IT departments around the nation are approaching the season-ending event a tad more reluctantly. It's not their bracket picks that concern them, but the stress their networks have to handle as more workers begin streaming games online. A survey from Braun Research found more than 40 percent of the surveyed IT professionals said March Madness historically has impacted their company's network, with some 37 percent saying report their networks have slowed down, and 34 percent reporting the game-watching has essentially shut down their networks for a period of time. "With the increasing popularity and availability of streaming video, it has become easier than ever for workers to watch sports games at their desk," said Jack Cullen, president of Modis, which commissioned the survey.
