Online video platform and Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) subsidiary, thePlatform, has landed A&E Networks as the latest addition to its customer roster.
A+E Networks, which includes pay-TV channels A&E, Bio, History, and Lifetime, will use thePlatform's mpx video management system to help it expand its programming to more screens and syndication outlets.
The OVP said it has already deployed the mpx platform for Bio, History, A&E and Lifetime and will be extending it to other A&E Networks' channel brands over time. A+E Networks currently reaches about 96 million homes.
"With thePlatform's video management system, mpx, we are able to consolidate our video workflow into one system, with the flexibility and enterprise-class reliability we need to reach new screens and outlets," said John Cool, vice president of digital media technology at A+E Networks.
In September, thePlatform was selected by Liberty Global to aggregate and publish video across the cable operator's footprint, providing back-end video management using its cloud-based mpx Video Management system, supporting Liberty Global's TV Everywhere push in 14 countries.
It has also lined up recent deals with Real Life Ventures AB in Sweden to extend video publishing, management and development solutions across the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and the company signed Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) and Telstra to support TV Everywhere initiatives.
In addition to A&E, Bio, History, and Lifetime, some of the other programming networks that rely on thePlatform include: PBS, Travel Channel Media, E, truTV, Style Network, Outdoor Channel and NBC Local Media.
