Sinclair subsidiary ONE Media, through its work with Saankhya Labs, is launching some new chipsets that support the ATSC 3.0 next-generation TV standard.
The companies worked with VeriSilicon and Samsung Foundry to put out chips that support 12 DTV standards including ATSC 3.0, DVB-T2, ISDB-T, and satellite and cable standards for TV, set-top boxes, and home gateways as well for automotive and mobile applications.
ONE Media said the chips come in two flavors: a Demod-only variant (SL3000) that’s designed for linear TV applications like reception in HDTV sets, set-top boxes and home gateways; and a Demod-plus tuner variant (SL4000) that’s designed for mobile and portable devices.
The chipsets use ASIC turnkey design and manufacturing services from VeriSilicon and Samsung Foundry's fully depleted SOI process technology for low power capabilities.
"These mobile 3.0 chips validate the 'sea change' in over-the-air distribution of, not only television, but all digital data. Broadcasters are doing their part by deploying the NextGen transmission facilities, and now there will be devices enabled to receive that data—personalized and in mobile form. This chip is the key to that disruptive future in a 5G world,” said Mark Aitken, president of ONE Media 3.0, in a statement.

"Furthermore, the bandwidth and power benefits that our technology enables are enhanced to shorten the design cycle time, deliver best-in-class products and value to existing and emerging markets."
At the same time, Sinclair and SK Telecom announced that the two companies would jointly fund and manage a joint venture company within the first quarter of this year, with the intention of developing ATSC 3.0 broadcasting solutions for the U.S. and internationally.
