Syncbak launching OTT syndication platform for broadcasters

Livestreaming tech company Syncbak is launching a straight-to-over-the-top syndication marketplace, MarketSync, for television broadcasters.

The MarketSync app—which is designed to help broadcasters syndicate, deliver and monetize original content—will be part of Syncbak’s existing SBTV platform. The marketplace will allow SBTV uses to license content to fill out their OTT channel programming lineups.

SBTV lets local stations build live and on-demand OTT channels in both in their local markets and anywhere else in the U.S. where they have content distribution rights. Channels include news, weather, sports and local live events and original programming from SBTV’s content marketplace.

Syncbak said that more than 100 stations are currently streaming on SBTV, and the company is hoping to more than double that number in 2019.

“We’re doubling down on OTT in 2019 and MarketSync is a huge piece of that effort for us,” said Hilton Howell, chairman at Gray Television, in a statement. “What our viewers and advertisers need is more content delivered anytime, anywhere, on whatever device they choose. That’s what SBTV delivers, and MarketSync gives us immediate access to that content,” added Howell.

“When I started Syncbak, my vision was to make television work like the internet,” said Jack Perry, founder of Syncbak, in a statement. “To do that, I knew we had to connect broadcasters, viewers, advertisers and content owners in real-time. Now, with a simple 'swipe' the process of syndicating content gets started. It’s easy and fun and will change the licensing game for OTT.”

Syncbak sells an end-to-end platform, SimpleSync, that can be used for livestream transcoding, cloud-based rights resolution, cloud-based DVR, device filtering, geolocation services, content management, stream monitoring, video clipping and dynamic ad insertion. The company’s clients include CBS All Access, Hulu, fuboTV, Sony, Amazon and the NFL.
