Fox Sports sets UEFA soccer streaming deal with fuboTV

Fox Sports is extending the streaming reach of its UEFA soccer deal through a new sublicensing agreement with fuboTV.

The virtual MVPD today said it has secured exclusive U.S. rights through a six-year deal with Fox Sports to stream select matches beginning with the UEFA Nations League in June 2022. The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.

FuboTV’s coverage includes select matches within the following events in all languages (except Spanish and Portuguese): UEFA Nations League; European Qualifiers to UEFA Euro 2024 and 2028; European Qualifiers to FIFA World Cup 2026; friendly matches played by European nations controlled by UEFA; UEFA Euro2024 (5 Matches); and UEFA Euro2028 (5 Matches).

fuboTV’s UEFA coverage will stream on Fubo Sports Network, which is available as part of fuboTV’s base subscription plan. Select UEFA matches and all re-airs will stream on Fubo Sports Network and with its distribution partners including Hisense smart TVs, LG Channels, Sports on Tubi, Plex, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Vizio Channels and Xumo.

“Soccer has always been integral to fuboTV’s DNA,” said fuboTV CEO David Gandler in a statement. “Today’s announcement of our deal with FOX Sports to distribute UEFA National Team Football marks an important milestone for the company as we work to differentiate our sports-first content portfolio and reinvent interactive sports and entertainment television. We are excited to partner with FOX Sports to bring some of the world’s most important and thrilling soccer events to consumers over the years to come.”

“We’re excited to partner with fuboTV on UEFA’s most-coveted events,” said Fox Sports CEO and Executive Producer Eric Shanks in a statement. “fuboTV and FOX Sports both share a strong passion for soccer, and what better way to celebrate this beautiful game than with some of the world’s greatest tournaments.”

In November, Gandler said 96% of his service’s overall audience watched live sports in September 2021 and that he expects his company’s revenues to hit $1 billion “at some point.”

“With a predictable revenue stream, I guess the question is, given all the data that we collect, could we or should we be ones to also look at acquiring some of these rights directly,” he said, adding that fuboTV’s acquisition of streaming rights for Conmebol’s World Cup qualifying soccer matches in April a test that’s “working quite well for us.”
