Electronics maker LG has introduced a large smart touchscreen display device that it’s touting as a portable TV for on-the-go entertainment.
The StanbyMe Go’s 27-inch LED touchscreen can access streaming TV entertainment via the internet and app store. It comes with support for a variety of video streaming apps at launch, along with over 300 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels from the LG Channels service. Support for apps include virtual MVPDs Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV. According to the LG spec sheet, other content partners integrated include Apple TV, Max, Paramount+, Disney+, Netflix, Peacock, and Amazon Prime Video, as well as streaming music with iHeartRadio and Spotify, and games.
The StanbyMe Go sports an HDMI port and is housed in a durable suitcase-style-stand design with built-in handles, battery with life up to three hours between charges, and speakers. The display can be tilted, rotated, raised and lowered, with landscape and portrait orientations or a tablet mode. In addition to touchscreen, it includes a remote or can be controlled hands-free via voice for changing channels and searching for content.
The entertainment device, which supports Dolby Vision video technology and Dolby Atmos stereo sound, is priced at just under $1,000. Preorders are now open and expected to start shipping in the U.S. the week of August 28. It’s available exclusively at LG’s website, with a special preorder offer for a free LG XBOOM 360 Bluetooth speaker.
The smart touchscreen display runs LG’s webOS software and supports AirPlay to show content from Apple devices, as well as screen mirroring with iOS and Android devices.
