U-verse TV preps a round of price hikes for 2022

U-verse, AT&T’s former IPTV brand that’s no longer accepting new subscribers, will roll out a round of price increases for its existing subscribers.

The latest price increases will go into effect on January 23, 2022.

“Due to increased programming costs, we’re adjusting the price of our video packages. Periodically, TV network owners increase the fees they charge AT&T for the right to broadcast their movies, shows, and sporting events. In addition, this year we have experienced higher-than-normal inflation across our suppliers,” the company wrote on its website, as spotted by TV Answer Man.

The U-basic package will stay at the same rate by the U-family, U-family All In and U100 packages will all go up by $5 per month; U200, U200 All In, U200 Latino and U200 Latino All In will all go up by $7 per month; and remaining packages from U300 through U450 Latino All In will go up by $8 per month.

U-verse said next year it will also raise its Regulatory Cost Recovery Fee from $0.08 per month to $0.12.

“It covers regulatory fee expenses that U-verse TV pays to the Federal Communications Commission. Plus, the fee may include outstanding regulatory costs incurred in prior years that are not yet fully recovered. The fee isn’t a tax or surcharge that the government requires U-verse TV to collect if you have a U-verse TV account,” the company wrote.

The increase at U-verse comes after reports that DirecTV Stream, along with legacy DirecTV Now and AT&T TV Now accounts, will see their prices rise between $5 and $10 per month, according to The Streamable.

Price increases are common among traditional distributors as the calendar year turns over. Dish Network recently instituted a $5 per month increase for all of its Dish TV satellite plans and Comcast is also planning another round of rate and free increases for early 2022. Last month, Hulu + Live TV raised its monthly rate by $5 but added Disney+ and ESPN+ to the bundle.
