Comcast Spotlight hires former Google exec

Comcast Spotlight, the advertising sales division of Comcast Cable, has hired Melanie Hamilton as vice president of national sales.

Hamilton will lead the company’s national sales strategy, and work with Comcast Spotlight leadership to accelerate growth and build relationships with new and existing clients.

“We were looking for someone who has a strong track record of sales success, but who is also equally committed to – and passionate about – developing and leading workplace talent, cultivating relationships and approaching new opportunities and challenges with an entrepreneurial spirit,” said Comcast Spotlight Chief Revenue Officer Brendan Condon in a statement.

Hamilton arrives at Comcast after spending 11 years at Google, where she most recently served as the company’s telecom “Head of Industry” (HOI) and handled its AT&T account across Google’s suite of marketing, ad tech and cloud products.

Hamilton also ran Google’s retail sector – serving as the HOI for brands including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord + Taylor and other big box retailers – and Google’s financial services sector – where she managed the company’s relationship with advertisers such as GEICO, Capital One and JPMorgan Chase.

Prior to Google, Hamilton worked at NBCUniversal, where she was a director overseeing strategic sales and marketing for the company’s local media division and a sales account manager for NBC11 (KNTV) in San Francisco.

“I’m very much looking forward to joining Comcast Spotlight. It’s a coming home of sorts for me,” Hamilton said. “There’s a lot going on there – from the launch of timely research such as the ‘New TV’ report to new industry solutions like Instant Impact.”
