Curiosity launches free, ad-supported channel on LG

Curiosity, the company that runs Curiosity Stream, has partnered with LG to launch Curiosity Now, a free, ad-supported streaming channel.

The new channel, which is available on LG Channels on all LG smart TV 4.0 and newer models, will offer a library of original and curated documentaries, shows and series across nature, history, science, travel and more. The company said it plans to launch Curiosity Now on additional free, ad-supported TV services (FAST) in the coming weeks. It described Curiosity Now as part of an enhanced subscriber acquisition strategy and a means toward bolstering its brand partnerships.

“We are excited to introduce the Curiosity Now streaming channel to the LG Channel platform and bring a sampling of our family-friendly, factual entertainment programming to LG’s highly engaged user base,” said Brandon Fong, senior vice president of partnerships and distribution for Curiosity, in a statement. “LG customers will have more ways to interact with Curiosity’s deep library of content and discover some of the best programming across nature, history, science, and travel.”

Curiosity Now marks the company’s first foray into free streaming. It also operates Curiosity Stream, which now has more than 23 million subscribers; Curiosity Channel, which has distribution with traditional and virtual MVPDs including fuboTV; and Curiosity Studios, which oversees original programming for the company.

Late last year, Curiosity launched the “Smart Bundle,” which includes access to Curiosity Stream’s films, shows and series in 4K along with complimentary access to Tastemade+, SommTV, Topic, One Day University and Nebula. The full product is priced at $69.99 annually and is available to new subscribers and existing customers who upgrade.

“We believe we’ve built the most compelling collection of intellectually stimulating content out there for, frankly, unrivaled value,” said Devin Emery, chief product officer and executive vice president of content strategy at Curiosity, in a statement. “We’re excited to partner with these leading services to provide subscribers access to the best collection of smart, high-quality entertainment anchored by Curiosity Stream’s Premium 4K offering.”
